All by myself........

Yesterday I spent the day pretty much doing my own things here in Provincetown. When I got up, I went to the gym and worked on chest and triceps. After having a nice lunch, I headed downtown to watch the Blessing of the Fleet from MacMillan Pier. As you can see from the video, there were Portuguese dancers at the end of the pier. They were great!

Later on, I went bike riding out on the National Seashore trails. I have this lovely speedometer on my bike that tracks the number of miles, average miles per hour, time, and temperature. What I like most about it is that when you are not moving, the time stops. It starts up again when you begin biking. So, I know exactly how much time is spent riding rather than resting.

When I got home, I spent the rest of the night relaxing on the couch. I'm getting very little sleep on Friday and Saturday nights since I'm bartending at the Gifford House. When I get home on those nights, I have a hard time falling asleep yet I'm up by 8 am. By Sunday, I'm quite exhausted.

Call me Artie the one man party, but all in all, I had a great time yesterday all by myself.

Meet Reggie

This is a picture of our kitten Reggie taken in our condo in Fort Lauderdale. Reggie will be turning six months old on June 27th. He has come along way since we got him in January. We think he was a stray, but not totally sure. He has a very different personality than Leonardo (Leonardo was our cat that died in February 2004 at a very young age.) Leonardo was very loveable. He would sit on your lap for hours and loved Jeff's and my attention. He also warmed up to everyone he met. Reggie, on the other hand, loves us but does not like to be held for long periods of time. His play is very aggressive meaning he likes to nip at your arms and feet. He can be purring as load as he can and sneak up and nip your foot at the same time. Although it's playful behavior, I hope he grows out of this so that I don't have to worry about my feet every time I'm watching television.

Reggie travels very well. He flew with us on the airplane from Fort Lauderdale to Boston. He did not make one sound from the time we put him in the carrier at 5 am in Fort Lauderdale until we got to Jeff's parents in Lexington, MA at about 11 am. I thought for sure he would freak out during takeoff, but he didn't. He was so calm. Come to think of it, he hardly every meows.

Well... time to go. I need to get my outdoor exercise done before the thunderstorms move in.

Time to dust off these old things

I went rollerblading today for the first time in many, many years. And I seemed to be the only one. I can remember loads of people rollerblading on Commercial Street in Provincetown during the 90s..... but today, not so much. I actually got strange looks from some. Oh well.... I had a good time.

There are actually two pairs of blades at my house. Rollerblades were one of the first presents I ever bought Jeff back in 1999. At the time, I thought we would go rollerblading together. I think he has used them twice in all of these years.... so today, I used his pair since they are like new.

I went up and down the whole length of Commercial Street a couple of times and then out to Herring Cove Beach and back for a total of 1 hour, 15 minutes. Add that to the hour in the gym this morning, and I had a good day of exercise.

There has been a lot of talk in Provincetown about repaving Commercial Street. Well let me tell you, it needs to be done like yesterday. When you're on Rollerblades, you feel every hole and bump much more than in a car or on a bike. I guess that when they put in the sewer system, they ran out of money to repave the streets. The town is looking into federal stimulus money for this project. Let's hope they repave soon!

First day of the exercise contest

Today was the first day of an exercise contest I decided to join. A few friends and myself will log all of the time each day that we spend exercising from June 21st to Labor Day. Whoever spends the most time wins the contest. Since I workout most days, I thought this would be an easy contest for me. But now I read that one of the contestants works out 17 hours per week. That's alot! I'm glad that this person entered the contest because it will motivate me to exercise more than I already do. Today, I went to the gym for one hour and fifteen minutes in the morning. Realizing that I need to do more, I went for a 45 minute bike ride on the trails out in the National Seashore. So, for the first day of the contest I have logged 2 hours of exercise. I hope that's enough!

Anyway, today was so beautiful. Besides the exercise, I spent a couple of hours at the Provincetown Inn pool with Jeff. This evening, we took a trip to Orleans and had dinner at Cooke's Seafood. I had fried fish which I almost never have. It was a nice treat.

Tomorrow, I will hit the gym again and probably do some rollerblading later on. Depending on the weather, I will do both some indoor and outdoor activities during this contest.
